My apologies for slacking off on the blog these days. June was a crazy busy month at our house. I guess that's what happens at the end of the school year - report cards and field trips to plan for Leah, year end activities for Daniel, the end of the t-ball season for the boys, James' busy work schedule. Then you throw in a few illnesses (Sarah came down with a cold/flu, Leah got what might have been tonsillitis or some sort of throat infection). That doesn't give a whole lot of time and energy for blogging! But it's about time for an update on our three favourite kids. They have certainly been learning and changing a lot in the last few months.
DANIEL
- It's hard to believe that an entire year has passed and Daniel is finished Kindergarten and going into grade 1! He loved Kindergarten and called the last day "a happy day and a sad day." He made many friends and was quite popular in his class. He loved his teacher, Mrs. Grewal. He worked very hard in school and I heard many comments on how focused he was on his work and wouldn't stop until he was happy with it, even if all the other kids were finished and playing.
- Daniel's becoming a reader! He's starting to sound out words and can read some simple books. He's pretty proud of his new accomplishment but is a little shy about it. He won't read words aloud unless he's really confident that he has the word right.
- Daniel's also become a great writer. I'll have to scan some of the pages from his school journal because he's doing a great job sounding out words on his own.
- Daniel enjoyed t-ball and improved a lot over the season (well, the season was two months). He really likes team sports and playing with the other kids and isn't really all that competitive. He's out there for a good time. But he learned a lot, too - his throwing and batting are much better and he was proud to have gotten a few homeruns.
ADAM
- Adam's going to be our little scholar, I think. He loves seeing what Daniel's doing in school and trying to do it himself. He knows all his letters and can print most of them (G is a little tricky). He can count to 100 almost on his own. He loves to write, type and draw and makes really creative pictures. He's very hard on himself and expects to be able to do everything that Daniel can do. It'll be interesting when he gets to school because I think he'll have very high expectations of himself.
- Adam LOVED t-ball and he was quite a natural. Even though he was the smallest kid on his team by far, he looked really good out there. He hit really well and liked to skip around the bases, usually with his tongue sticking out! He really understands the concept of the game, too. He's really excited about starting soccer with Daniel in the fall, too.
- Sarah's not our baby anymore - she's turned into a little girl! The words have started coming in the past two weeks and she's become quite the chatterbox. She loves to parrot everything the boys say. It's so cute, especially when she can't actually say it - it sounds like gibberish but the intonation is perfect. Some of her newest words include mama, dada, Dado (Daniel), Addy (Adam), beez (please), bash (bath), jyoosh (juice), owie, deesh (brush my teeth), ish (fish), nana (banana), momo (soother).
- She's also really good with animal sounds recently - woof woof, moo, neigh, baa, roar (lions, dinosaurs, sharks, anything scary). Her favourite is guk guk (quack quack). Sometimes it means duck. However, James taught the boys that, when you pass gas, you should say, "It wasn't me; it was a duck." Well, now whenever Sarah passes gas, she looks at you with a smile on her face and says, "guk guk." :)
- Sarah's certainly our little tomboy. She loves to be right in there with the boys, wrestling, playing on the playground, getting dirty in the puddles, climbing everything in sight. She has no fear. She's starting to play with her dolls and is obsessed with babies, but she's certainly a tomboy at heart.
