Busy weekend

It was a pretty nice Saturday, so most of it was spent outside. James decided to tackle our front yard, which is pretty much dead, and dug out all the grass. Daniel loved "helping"! I think James would have liked if he could help more, because it was back-breaking work.

Sunday morning was Queensweep. It's a neighbourhood-wide outdoor cleanup. Daniel enjoyed picking up all the plippy and Adam was content sitting in the wagon.

All volunteers got a hot dog lunch at the community centre and we met up with a few neighbours there. The Tim Horton's doughnut van was there as well. They should hire Daniel to sell their hot chocolate. He would never try hot chocolate because it has the word hot in it. But we finally got it into him one day and now he can't get enough!

In the evening, we had our family dinner with Lauren, Duncan and Lindsay. It was our turn to host but, because I had an orchestra concert that afternoon, we decided to take everyone out for dinner. We went to Boston Pizza and the boys had fun hanging out with their aunties and uncle.

A tooth!

I took Adam to the doctor on Tuesday and she said he can stop coming to his monthly weight check appointments! He's still not on the charts, but he's steadily gaining and she's happy with that. He was 14 pounds 14 ounces!

Adam also got his first tooth on Tuesday - the bottom left one. It seems that tooth was causing him lots of grief at night and that's why he was up 4-5 times. Now he's back to once or twice which makes us all happy!

Sun Run

It was supposed to snow this morning. Snow!!! Fortunately, it didn't, because we were doing the Sun Run this morning. The four of us went with Gramma and Grampa T. and 59,000 other people. It was cold at first, but we were dressed for the weather. The boys both had fleece, toques, mittens and blankets on in their comfy double stroller. We got to the start line at about 10:10am only to see that both the boys had fallen asleep! We made pretty good time until about 7km when Daniel woke up. He had a good time walking, running and riding on Daddy and Grampa's shoulders. Adam didn't wake up until we crossed the finish line! I guess he won't remember much from his first Sun Run!

After the race, we went to BC Place to gather up some free food and drinks and then treated my parents to a fancy lunch - hot dogs from Costco! We took the SkyTrain home and, when we reached our station, Daniel decided he really wanted to take the bus home. So Daniel and I hopped on the bus while James and Adam took the car home. I think the bus ride may have been the highlight of Daniel's day!

On the move...

It won't be long before we have two boys on the move! Adam got himself from sitting to crawling position today! He looked pretty proud of himself and looked like he was almost ready to start moving. It won't be long until he's crawling over to play with all of Daniel's toys!

Daniel decided not to nap today. We thought the day wouldn't go too well because of that, but we were wrong. He had a lot of fun digging in the backyard with James and the two of them went for a walk up to the playground.
By dinner, though, Daniel was exhausted. But he loved dinner (pancakes, which he kept calling panties!) and fell asleep in Daddy's arms as he was lifted out of his high chair!

Now we just have to get ready for our adventure tomorrow. We've all signed up to go in the Sun Run - and it's supposed to snow tomorrow! It should be interesting...

Just a nice day

We had a really nice today. Daniel was being such a nice big brother. He even fed Adam his breakfast this morning.

Luckily, we got outside this afternoon, because we had slushy snow this evening! Daniel wanted to ride his tricycle up to the playground this afternoon, so I got him all ready to go, strapped Adam into the baby carrier and told Daniel to go get on his trike so I could take his picture. He wouldn't sit on it! When I asked him why, he said "Me plupt!" Potty training obviously isn't working for Daniel yet! It's no so easy to change a poopy diaper with a baby strapped to your front but I did it and we went on our way.

This evening the four of us went to the Family Fusion dinner at our community centre. Family Fusion is a dinner that comes from one culture and the entertainment from another (for example, Chinese food with Bhangra dancing). Tonight's was the first one of the season and it was a barbecue. Daniel had a lot of fun playing with some of our neighbours. He was dying to dance with his friends Kioko and Teilani, but he was too shy to join in. Daniel - too shy??? But he finally joined them on the last song.

On the way home, we decided to continue the fun night out and went to Tim Horton's for doughnuts. That's when we saw the snow! Luckily, we wimped out and had driven instead of walking to the community centre. It pays off to be lazy sometimes!

Growing and learning

The boys and I went up to the community centre for a playgroup organized by the public health nurses. The group is made up of mostly new moms (Adam is the oldest baby) and a few older siblings. Daniel loves playing with the toys there and has found himself a little girlfriend named Danya. (He can't stop talking about Nyanya). Adam enjoys showing off to the smaller babies, since he can sit and they can't! He always has a big smile on his face the whole time. I was able to weigh Adam while we were there and he's now 14 pounds 5 ounces! Although he's still the size of an average 3 month old, he's right on track in every other way. He's so close to going from sitting to crawling, he rolled from back to front last night (for James - I still haven't seen it yet!) and he's trying so hard to talk.

Daniel's vocabulary is just exploding these days. He figured out how to say house and talks about houses constantly now. We ate meat pies for dinner last night and his entire dinner conversation was "Mommy pie? Daddy pie? Me pie? No baby pie!" And then, when I wasn't looking, he finished off my meat pie!

Daniel knows his colours!

I took the boys to StrongStart yesterday. StrongStart is a parent participation preschool aimed at 0-5 year olds. Daniel loves going to school! He gets to play with yayas (kids), play with vroom vrooms (trucks and cars), paint, do arts and crafts, read stories and, on the best days, play in the gym. He's learning so much and so quickly. His vocabulary has just exploded the last few days. He built a tower of blocks yesterday, looked at me and said house, clear as anything. He pointed to the blocks and told me what colours they were: rad, byoo, ween, ohnt. I don't know when kids are supposed to learn their colours, but that seemed pretty smart to me!

Spring has finally arrived!

What a beautiful weekend we've had. Although spring started three weeks ago, it hasn't felt like it until this weekend. We spent almost the entire weekend outside, as a family - something we haven't done in quite a while. I think the boys really enjoyed it.

On Saturday, we got our bikes and bike trailer out and went for a ride. It was one of the first time I'd been on my bike since before Daniel was born! The boys looked so cute in the trailer. Adam's helmet was much too big and I don't think he appreciated having to hold his heavy head up for so long. He fell asleep not long into the ride.

We rode down to the Fraser River where there is a little strip of beach. Daniel got to run through the sand and even wade a bit in the water. According to Daniel, the water was dlij, which is his word for cold. (You have to say dlij while shivering - Daniel-ese is a mixture of sign language and actual speaking.)

The afternoon was spent in the backyard doing some landscaping. James is going to build the boys a sandbox. He dug out an old planter in the back of our yard and is going to fill it with sand. Daniel had a great time digging in all the dirt. The boys got so dirty that they ended up having to eat dinner outside, so they didn't track mud all through the house.

Sunday was just as beautiful, but a bit cooler. We took the boys up to the playground and had a picnic. Daredevil Daniel tried to climb all the ladders by himself! Overall, we had a great weekend. It's not too often we can spend a whole weekend as a family just doing fun things. I'm sure it's the start of a very fun spring and summer!

Welcome to our story!

This blog is written to help you all stay in touch with Daniel and Adam. Whether you want to or not, you can find out all the cute, funny and interesting things they're up to every day. I'll try to include lots of pictures, too, so you can see how they're growing and changing every day. This should also help me remember all the little things they do. Daniel is saying the funniest things now and Adam is changing so quickly that I don't want to forget anything. Hope you enjoy keeping up with the adventures of Daniel and Adam!
