Hot, hot, hot!

It is so hot here! While I am loving the hot weather, I don't think my boys are! So, to beat the heat, most of the day was spent in the water.

This morning, we walked up to the spray park. Daniel had a great time running through the water and Adam loved sitting in the puddles. I was actually surprised; the water was really cold and I didn't think Adam would like it. I think we'll be spending many hours up at the spray park this summer.

On the walk home, Adam fell asleep in my arms. I guess the fresh air and water tired him out! It tired Daniel out, too. He managed to eat some of his lunch. Then, he looked at me and said, "Me wipe" because his face was covered with beans. As soon as the words were out of his mouth, his head fell backwards and he was fast asleep!

While the boys napped, I went out to get some groceries. I guess my mind was elsewhere because, after loading the car with the groceries, I locked my keys in the car! Luckily, it's only a 15 minute walk home. I had mentioned to James that I was looking forward to grocery shopping because I haven't left the house by myself in over a month. I wasn't planning on a long walk by myself, too! It was a little warm, but I did appreciate the peace and quiet!

After the boys woke up from their naps, Daniel's buddy Carson and his parents, Chris and Terryl, came over to swim in Daniel's pool. (Well, Carson swam, not his parents!) The boys had a great time pouring buckets of water over each other's heads and squirting each other. Adam really enjoyed his baby pool, although sometimes he would look over longingly at the older boys, wishing he could join in!

And just a cute one of Adam trying out an apple juice popsicle:

It's finally summer!

The weather was beautiful today and we certainly took advantage of it. We started the day by meeting up with my friends, Aster and Daisy. Daniel and Adam had fun playing with their friends Tyler and Katrina and I finally got to meet Aster's new baby, Katelyn, who was very cute but very sleepy!

Then we went down to White Rock to my parents' trailer for lunch. Uncle David, Aunty Joan and Alyssah were there as well. We had a nice afternoon roasting hot dogs and making smores as well as walking along the beach and playing in the sand. Adam found himself a couple of older girlfriends who took quite a liking to him and we discovered that Daniel thinks that seaweed is plippy.

(Our best attempt at a shot of the two of them. It's not an easy thing to do these days!)

James actually got home early today after a week of early mornings and late nights, so we were able to head up to the community centre for the monthly Family Fusion dinner. We met up with a few of our neighbours, had some pizza and then watched the kids play tag. Daniel wore himself out! And Adam discovered a love of dirt. He managed to get a few mouthfuls in there and didn't start to cry until I tried to clean him up!

It was a very fun, sunny day but I think all that fresh air tired us out!

An update

Not too much has happened the past week or so, but we've still managed to keep ourselves busy. I'm so tired by the end of the evening that I haven't had the energy to write anything in here. But here are a few of the highlights of the past week and a half.

  • Daniel is doing great with potty training! He's been diaper-free (during the day) for about a week now. No accidents at all! He's still in a diaper at night but, otherwise, he's in his "unnies" as he likes to call them. He also knows to go on his own - he doesn't need us to remind him. He runs into the bathroom and does everything by himself. It's great! A little embarrassing, though, when he pulls down his pants in the middle of the park. I guess that's something that all little boys do!
  • Adam is pulling himself up now - using laundry baskets, baby gates, stairs...he tried the piano bench and ended up smacking his cheek and still has a big bruise. I haven't caught him on camera yet, but his grin is huge!
  • James has been working a lot because the customer is in town and there are lots of meetings. He's been wearing his suit everyday, looking very spiffy. But not according to Daniel - he says Daddy has funny clothes!
  • Daniel's talking a lot more now. He likes to name people now. He knows all the characters in the Franklin the turtle books. He lists his daycare friends as we're driving to Linda's house - "Me fren Tawa (Sarah). Me fren Jamie. Me fren Ma (Mackenzie). Me fren Joowee (Julia). Me fren Ninna (Linda)." It's very cute. He was trying to tell me something Uncle Neil did but couldn't say his name. He pointed to him and called him "here man" but it comes out as "he mon." He-man with a Jamaican accent?!?

We have a busy weekend coming up. This weekend is our community centre's 30th anniversary, so there are lots of events going on. There's a pizza dinner on Friday, big anniversary party on Saturday and bike parade on Sunday. I don't know what we'll get to but we'll try to take part in some of the weekend. It's supposed to be hot and sunny!

Father's Day

Father's Day was a little different around here this year. Since I had just gotten home from Boston and my family is away in San Francisco, we celebrated Father's Day last weekend. So the real Father's Day was just spent with Daddy and his boys. We decided to go to Maplewood Farm. The boys loved it! Daniel loved all the animals, especially the turkeys. Who knows why! Adam loved looking at all the animals but wasn't so sure about getting close to them. They were much better farther away.

Boston

We've been too busy to update in a while, but here's a little bit about the trip that Adam and I took to Boston. We had a really nice time visiting Lesley and her new baby, Mary. The weather was beautiful in Massachusetts and we had a laid-back time with lots of walks around the neighbourhood. Adam was really good on the plane - a little fussy but we still got lots of comments on how well-behaved he was. He really got tired of sitting on the plane, though. Can't blame him!

Here are a few pictures from the trip.

Cute Mary:

A woman at the grocery store asked me if Adam and Mary were twins! Hmmm...one is 10 months, the other 8 weeks. One is blonde-haired, blue-eyed, the other is part-Chinese. But they both did have on little outfits with frogs on them. Maybe that's it!

After a long walk to the grocery store and, our favourite, Trader Joe's:

Roots of Empathy

Adam has been a teaching baby in a kindergarten class all year as part of the Roots of Empathy program. He's visited his class every three weeks. The children loved having "Baby Adam" come visit and got to see him grow from a little two month old newborn to a crawling, smiling, happy ten month old. It's been a really neat experience.

Yesterday we were asked to come to the Roots media event. The local paper was there as well as different people involved in the program and in the school board. All the babies participating were supposed to be there (five in total) but only Adam and another baby, Jack, were there. So there might be a few pictures of Adam in the paper! (Maybe Daniel as well. I had to bring him and, although he was really well-behaved, he did manage to steal some of the attention away from the babies!)

Adam received a really cute t-shirt that says he is a "Roots of Empathy Teacher." It's something he can keep and wear for a long time. He got the smallest size, which was 18-24 months!

On Friday, Adam will have his final visit with his kindergarten class. I have heard that the children are saying it will be a very sad day, because it's the last day they can see Baby Adam. I'm sure we'll see lots of the kids this summer at the water park, so I don't think they have anything to worry about!

Daniel wins the Potty Prize!

Today Daniel was awarded a medal for winning the Potty Prize! Today was the first day he spent all day in underwear and was dry the entire day! He even went #2 on the toilet - he hasn't done that in months. We were so proud of him...and he was pretty proud of himself, too. So, after he got home from daycare, we presented him with his Potty Prize (a medal made out of the lid of a frozen lemonade container) and had chocolate cake for dessert. He was pretty excited about the medal, but he may have been more excited about the cake!

No ABC's

Daniel refuses to sing the ABC's - one at a time. :)

Caught red-handed

Daniel was invited next door to play with his friend, Kioko, and her cousins. Kioko got a new Barbie swimming pool that Daniel loved. As you can see, I caught him red-handed, playing with naked Barbies!
