Fireworks!

Wednesday night was the first night of the Celebration of Light (formerly known as the Symphony of Fire). So we packed up the boys, picked up Gramma and Grampa and headed down to Vanier park to watch the fireworks. We got there a little after 6:00 and had a picnic dinner. Before that, we visited the BC Hydro Power Smart booth, where the boys got to play some games and win a cool, glowing necklace. Daniel was video-ed by the Power Smart people and may get to be in their promotional video! Supposedly, we can get a copy when it's done. He'll be famous!

After our picnic dinner, the boys headed off for one of many walks with Daddy and Grampa. The boys managed to fill up the almost four hours with walks, playing on the rocks by the water, playing with Spiderman toys, chasing after each other with blow-up batons, and flirting with the young women on the blanket beside us. (I think that may have been their favourite part!)

At one point, during one of the boys' walks, Gramma and I were sitting on our blanket when, suddenly, we were surrounded by tripods. Seven photographers set up their fancy cameras all around us. We weren't even able to leave our blanket! But, as soon as they were set up, a practice firework was let off, they all photographed and realized they weren't in an ideal location so, as quickly as they arrived, they were gone. It was the strangest thing! I'm glad they left, though. They were really loud...plus I was afraid one of our curious little boys might have tried t0 play with their very expensive cameras or tripods!

Finally, it was time to settle in, get some Kettle Korn and watch the fireworks. This night was Canada's entry and it was done to the music from "The Wizard of Oz." It was good but not amazing. Adam loved it all - I don't think he blinked the entire time. Daniel liked it but he didn't like the scary witch music so he spent a bit of time with his eyes closed and ears covered.

The boys managed to stay awake (barely) until we got back to the van at about 11:00. They were out within seconds, though! Everyone had a good time but it certainly messed up the next couple of days - the boys were tired and grouchy and had a hard time catching up on their sleep. But it was certainly fun. We'll skip the other three nights this year but we'll definitely be back next year.
